The October 2002 Ofsted report found the school to be very effective with significant strengths. It particularly highlighted the very good teaching which promotes very good pupil achievement in the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. The pupils' very good behaviour, attitudes and relationships were singled out as was the ethos created by the staff to enrich pupils' work and progress. (note that 'very good' is 'Ofsted speak')

It is a happy school that cares for all those who work in it. Visitors often comment on the positive ethos and atmosphere that provides the pupils with a purposeful, challenging and stimulating environment in which they become independent and confident learners.

There are seven classes in the school, catering for pupils of 4 to 11 years of age. Although the children begin school before their fifth birthday there is an independent Pre-School (SKIPS - see separate entry) in the village from which most of the children graduate to the primary school.

The Mission Statement of the school is:
R espect everything and everyone in our school including our neighbours
E verybody work hard to raise standards and achieve their personal best
S mile, say sorry, please and thank you
P layground and school rules are there for our safety, so always follow them
E veryday is a chance to grow in knowledge and confidence
C hoose 'right from wrong' and be a role model to others
T he 'whole school' is ours - so make it the happiest and best place to be!
